Quotes
-
Michael Anthony : [Responding to a visitor at his home, Ted McAllister opens the front door and sees Mr. Anthony] Mr. Ted McAllister?
Ted McAllister : Yes.
Michael Anthony : May I come in for a moment? My name is Michael Anthony.
Ted McAllister : Oh, yeah. S'pose you're, um, Bill Anthony's father, aren't you?
[McAllister motions for Anthony to enter]
Ted McAllister : You know, we're doing all we can with your son. But if you'd given him a little more supervision yourself, this wouldn't have happened.
Michael Anthony : [Confused] I'm afraid...
[Stops and opens his briefcase to remove a check]
Michael Anthony : I have a check here for you.
[Holds up check]
Ted McAllister : [Ignoring the check] Bill said he'd try to get you to come down here and throw your weight around.
Michael Anthony : Why don't you take a look at the check?
Ted McAllister : I don't accept bribes, Mr. Anthony.
[Anthony literally holds the check in front of McAllister's eyes]
Ted McAllister : It's a million dollars.
Michael Anthony : Yes, a million dollars. And it's not a bribe. It's a gift from an anonymous benefactor.
Ted McAllister : A gift? With no strings attached?
Michael Anthony : Only one. You must tell no one where you got the money or the amount. No one but your wife.
Ted McAllister : Who'd give me a million dollars?
Michael Anthony : [Anthony withdraws a form from his briefcase] You'll never know. But it's yours, tax-free, as soon as you sign this paper.
Ted McAllister : I could work ten lifetimes for money like that.
[Signs the agreement, which Anthony reclaims and put into his briefcase]
Michael Anthony : Good night, Mr. McAllister
[Heads for the door]
Ted McAllister : [Staring at check] Good night.
