- A doctor temporarily blinds Phelps in order for him to convincingly pose as an alcoholic, washed up, ex- federal agent who's eager to sell information identifying an FBI mole deep within an organized crime boss' inner circle.
- The mission of discrediting a mob boss's assistant and getting a federal mole promoted in his place requires Jim to pose as an agent blinded in the line of duty. What's more the usual fakery won't do. Jim must submit to a surgery that will render him genuinely, if temporarily blind. Jim must also play the man as embittered, corrupt and seriously alcoholic (complete with DT's). Actor Peter Graves is having a wonderful time. Barney infiltrates the gang as a "fixer," while Willie sees to surveillance and Casey plays a seductive landlady as the IMF pulls off one of the oldest tricks in the book: Pretend to give away the "traitor," then expose the evidence as phony. The mole is cleared and considered more trustworthy than ever.
