They had only been married for three years when she was murdered by no less a man than Adolf Hitler. Well, it was a quick and very quiet inquest. Herr Kelmann lied for his fuhrer, and they called it self-defense.

  Rollin Hand : So we're going to try to reawaken some old memories in Kelmann.

• James Phelps : Major Richard Dunhill, American Nazi Corps, at your service, sir.

  Col. Markus von Frank : Welcome, Major. I've been expecting you. Colonel Von Frank. It has been a long, long time since I have last entertained one of our American friends.

  James Phelps : Please, have a seat.

  Col. Markus von Frank : Thank you. You are most kind, sir. But I didn't come here just to be entertained.I'm here on a very serious matter.

  Col. Markus von Frank : Oh? What is it?

  James Phelps : Colonel, the American Nazi Movement is floundering. Our membership is down. The treasury is depleted. We have no strength, no power.We have no leader. That is why I have come to you personally, sir.

  Col. Markus von Frank : So what can I do for you?

  James Phelps : Our people need incentive. Incentive, colonel,and above all, organization. They must be united behind a man who can inspire them, who can lead them. I think I might be that man, sir. But I cannot possibly achieve it by myself. I must have the one great advantage that no american nazi has ever had before. My people must know that I am your personal choice, that my orders come directly from Colonel Markus Von Frank himself.

  Col. Markus von Frank : You see, Major, what you're asking me, I can only give once. And it must be to the right man.Are you a man of courage, major?

  James Phelps : Yes. I am.

  Col. Markus von Frank : I must know that, you see. You see, major, we, here,for the past 500 years, have been answering the question of courage the same way. With a blade.

• Col. Markus von Frank : You stand facing each other, one blade length separating us. Left hand behind your back. At Heinz's first command, our blades will touch above our heads.At his second command, we shall commence the attack. Is that clear?

  James Phelps : Yes.

  Heinz : Your blade, Major. This is 20 thicknesses of surgical gauze, quite enough to protect the vital area.

  Col. Markus von Frank : Now, Major. To parry a head-cut, you go like this. To parry a cheek-cut, you go like this. Are you ready to commence, major?

  James Phelps : Yes.

  Col. Markus von Frank : Now, Major, a man of courage does not take a backwards step, no matter what. We shall commence and halt at Heinz's command. Unless there's a serious wound, we shall do it four times. Are you ready? Open up! Loft! Halt!

• Col. Markus von Frank : He lied to me! Kelmann lied to me! He told me that girl had been at the academy, studying there for nearly one year.

  James Phelps : That's what she told him.She lied to him.

  Col. Markus von Frank : I want to know everything about the girl. Do you understand? Everything!
