- [last lines]
- George Mishenko: Where are you taking him?
- James Phelps: Where he came from. Back to the federal penitentiary.
- George Mishenko: Leave him to us. We'll take good care of him, I promise you.
- James Phelps: Mr. Mishenko, you can have him in about 19 years.
- Person on Tape: [voice on tape] Good morning, Mr. Phelps. Alexander Vanin is now serving a 20-year sentence for espionage. Immediately prior to his arrest, Colonel Vanin hid a list of EEPR agents operating in the United States. Gregor Mishenko, Vanin's control, has been ordered to locate the list. But Vanin has thus far refused to reveal its whereabouts. He knows that once the list is found, his usefulness to his government is over, and they will abandon him. Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to find Vanin's list. This tape will self-destruct in five seconds. Good luck, Jim.
- [first lines]
- Alexander Vanin: [on phone] Valenkoff?
- Valenkoff: Yes.
- [to woman in room]
- Valenkoff: Madam Vanin, it is the Colonel.
- Olga Vanin: [coming to the phone] Yes.
- Alexander Vanin: Olga, listen carefully. I do not have time to explain. I am going to give you some numbers. Do not repeat them. I want you to commit them to memory. 12... 45... 72. 12... 45... 72.
- Olga Vanin: I have them, Alex.
- Alexander Vanin: Good. Now, remember those numbers. Our lives may depend on it.
- George Mishenko: Don't you see how it is? The Americans have staged the whole thing. Vanin, the genius. Master spy. Master fool! They have manipulated you like a puppet! All of this... the bomb which caused us to evacuate the building, your release from prison, bringing your wife here, all for the same purpose... the location of the list.
