It's time for the official investiture of Paul as the Laird of Glenbogle. There's a major hiccup however: according to the Proctor who will oversee the ceremony it's Donald, as a legitimate descendant, who is first in line of precedence. Paul can't quite believe it and is prepared to chuck it in but Donald's exaggerated demands as Laird - including the re-imposition of an ancient feudal tax - spurs him on to lead a coup d'état. Meg suddenly returns to Glenbogle but Golly isn't very welcoming and she assumes their relationship is over. Even Jess, who saw what Meg's sudden departure did to her Dad's emotional well-being, tells her to stay away. She consults Molly, now back from a trip to New Zealand, who advises her to go after the man if he is her true love. Meg also has a secret that she is reluctant to share with anyone.
