- After Peter fails a job interview at a toy factory conducted by a computer, Mike makes the same machine short circuit and is promptly hired. Soon all four Monkees take a stand against the technology minded Mr Daggart (Stan Freberg) in favor of old fashioned, hand made toys.—The TV Archaeologist
- In order to help bring much needed money into the house, Peter goes on a job interview at a toy company. The "interviewer" is a computer that fires off a battery of questions. Peter can't answer fast enough and is rejected. Mike goes in for the same job, and beats the computer at its game, causing it to short circuit. Before the computer crashes, it names Mike as a genius, which impresses an executive named Daggart.
Mike is hired and shown around the company. He meets the company president, J.B., who is a wimp who goes along with everything Daggart suggests. Mike also meets Pop, who makes toys by hand. Daggart disdains Pop's methods, claiming that computer made toys are the future. He dismisses Pop as being out of touch, and Mike feels sorry for the older man.
Along with the rest of the band, Mike devises a plan to help Pop. Daggart invites kids in to test new toys the company is planning to sell. Micky, Davy and Peter infiltrate the testing session, disguised alternatively as kids and moms of the kids. They create mayhem, including blowing up toys, to disprove Daggart's theory that computer-generated toys are better. Daggart catches on that the guys are helping Pop, and he gets J.B. to fire both Pop and Mike.
Back at the guys home, the guys feel pretty dejected. Pop has a toy in his hand that he gave up developing because Daggart didn't think it was worth anything. Each of the guys throw the toy out, only to have it fly back into the house (it's a boomerang). Once they realize the toy has value, they take Pop directly to J.B. to demonstrate it to him.
J.B. is intrigued, but Daggart arrives to pour cold water on the whole idea. Daggart's efforts to undermine Pop backfire as J.B. finally shows some backbone and names Pop as the head of the manufacturing department. Daggart sulks and quits.
