Life imitates Art! (And I think I smell a small furry rodent....)

Warning: Spoilers
Ran across the old series recently and was feeling nostalgic (but it's been so long since I was a kid and the show originally aired, it's like the series is brand new to me). In this one, the guys need to get money to pay the rent, and Peter tries to get a job in a toy factory. The job interview Peter has with the computer in this episode? Prefigures pretty much every chatbot I've dealt with with more than half a century later, (not to mention more than a few "customer service" morons). And watching a couple of the guys pretend to be kids play testing new potential products (while the others take turn dressing in drag as their "mothers") prefigures pretty much every Monty Python episode ever....

Why does IMDb auto-correct Monkey every time I type it?

Warning: Spoilers
Peter goes for a job interview at a toy factor. He's interviewed by a computer and promptly denied. Mike goes for revenge and the computer blows a tube during his interview. He gets the job, but is disillusioned when he discovers machines taking all the jobs from people. The boys set out to make things right.

Monkey vs. Machine is another very funny episode. The highlight for me has to be Peter's interview. Mr. Notwhat What - very funny stuff. The supporting cast is top-notch in this episode, with Stan Freberg and Severn Darden.

Monkey vs. Machine is odd in that there is no Davy's Love of the Week.

Favorite song: Last Train to Clarksville (I hate to select it two episodes in a row, but I'm not a fan of the other song, Saturday's Child.

Stan Freberg and Severn Darden

"Monkee vs. Machine" guest stars famed voice-over artist and novelty recording star Stan Freberg, who unfortunately doesn't get much to do as the straight bad guy, manager of a toy company that uses a computer to hire its applicants. Severn Darden is the owner, but when an old toymaker gets dumped after a lifetime of bringing happiness to children, The Monkees plot to foil Freberg's cold-hearted approach to toymaking (Severn Darden retuned the second season for "The Monkees' Paw"). Before a reprise of "Last Train to Clarksville," we first hear "Saturday's Child" (recorded July 9), composed by David Gates (later with Bread), and featured on the debut LP THE MONKEES. The third broadcast (Sept 26), "Monkee vs. Machine" was fourth in production, filmed June 13-17 1966, only the second to be directed by co-producer Bob Rafelson.
