Ondine Vaughn and Leon Askin

Broadcast no. 41 (Nov 6 1967), "Card Carrying Red Shoes" is a weak latter entry missing the presence of Michael Nesmith. Another spy story, somewhat redeemed by Micky's rendition of 'Chicken Lake' (as opposed to 'Swan Lake'), about microfilm hidden in a pair of red shoes worn by a ballerina (Ondine Vaughn) who falls for Peter's face (take that Davy!). Familiar faces include Robert Cornthwaite, Leon Askin (HOGAN'S HEROES), and Vincent Beck, making his third and final appearance ("Royal Flush," "Son of a Gypsy"). The lone featured song is "She Hangs Out," a Jeff Barry composition/production originally recorded Jan 21 1967 for Canadian release as the B-side of "A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You." This June 21 remake produced by Chip Douglas is far stronger, a gritty vocal from Davy, featuring Nesmith on electric guitar, and Tork on organ. "Card Carrying Red Shoes" was filmed Sept 27-29, 46th in production. Next- "The Wild Monkees."
