One of the weaker episodes.

Warning: Spoilers
Monsters: Rerunstarts as college student Allison (Rachel Jones) is visited by Tony Sterling, a big TV star that she has a crush on. The only problem is that Tony has been dead for three months & he has come back as a zombie to make love to Allison. Concerned for Allison her friend Matt visit's Tony's ex-agent (Kaye Ballard) who reveals to him that Tony was dabbling in Satanism & Witchcraft before he died, Matt soon realises that Tony wants much more from Allison than her love & that she is in great danger...

Episode four from season two of Monsters this originally aired in the US during October 1989, directed by John Auerbach one has to say that Rerun is right down there with some of the poorer episodes from the show such as Their Divided Self (1989) & Satan in the Suburbs (1989) from season one & is the worst episode from the second season so far. The episode only lasts for twenty odd minutes & as such the story feels rushed, there's little scraps of plot here about soul's & animals, hell, soul stealing, people may not be who they appear to be & for some reason Tony likes to bite people on the neck for no apparent reason. The plot is predictable, not that much happens & it's only a few amusing lines of dialogue that save it from being a total turkey.

There's a really over-the-top showbiz agent character in this who wears some of the most ridiculous looking thick rimmed white glasses I have seen. There's no real horror here & the monster in this episode is an eel like thing that is only very briefly seen at the end. Rerun has a bit of romance but like the rest of the episode it doesn't really work. There's a brief but shameless reference to Creepshow 2 (1987) which was made by the same production company & was also a horror anthology as an impossible to miss poster for it is seen hanging in the agent's office. The acting & production values are alright but nothing special.

Rerun is definitely a Monsters episode that isn't worth a second viewing, one of the weaker episodes & maybe the weakest from season two overall.

What a boring episode, guess I spoke to soon.

Our episode starts with two friends in college Matt who is the bookworm nerdy type and Allison who is a little more easy going. Allison dreams of her Hollywood idol Tony Sterling who has recently died. Matt scoffs at Allison's liking of Sterling and her want to go out and find a guy who is adventurous, mostly because he has a crush on her as well. One night however Sterling mysteriously returns and comes a calling on young Allison, thinking this is weird Matt goes and talks to Sterling's former manager who confirms he was a monster only using woman for his personal benefit. Matt then learns that Sterling has returned from hell to take Allison's soul back with him. But, can Matt stop this in time. Well I guess after three pretty enjoyable episodes you would expect a stinker to be creeping up shortly. The main problem with this one is nothing happens, and towards the end when it finally does my attention had done left it. It also walks a strange path of being serious and comedic which didn't set to well with me either. The Tony Sterling character morphs into a "Nightbeast" type monster towards the end, but, its barely shown. Overall a boring episode.

Lamest Monsters episode yet

RERUN is unfortunately one of those excruciating comedy episodes that the MONSTERS TV show did so badly. It's the fourth episode of season two and it tells the tale of a TV-obsessed woman who's left feeling distraught when one of her beloved TV stars dies. Unfortunately for her, the length of her obsession sees her bringing the guy back to life, with all hell (literally) ensuing.

Sadly the bizarre premise of this story is played entirely for laughs and as a result the episode is complete nonsense. The acting in particular stinks, with poor and overblown performances throughout. The script is pretty dire, there are no funny moments, and as a whole the production is a weak one.

Nifty episode

Warning: Spoilers
College student Allison (an appealing portrayal by the pretty Rachel Jones) has a crush on recently deceased movie star Tony Sterling (smoothly played by the hunky Mark Nassar), who comes back from the dead with nefarious intentions for Allison. It's up to her nerdy friend Matt (a likeable performance by Mitchell Whitfield) to save her before it's too late.

Director John Auerbach relates the enjoyable story at a brisk pace as well as maintains an amiable tongue-in-cheek tone throughout. The clever script by Peg Haller and Bob Schneider neatly explores the perils of obsession and makes a valid point on how celebrities aren't always what they initially seem to be. Kaye Ballard contributes a lively turn as Tony's huffy agent Faye Ingram. Cute happy ending, too. A fun show.
