Hilarious Episode!
kryp447 July 2007
Probably my favorite episode from the first season. From the great sight gags of Spot's gigantic dog food can and Herman's Koach driving around the block, (the vehicle leaves in one frame and arrives in the next) to the laugh out loud lines. For example; when explaining to Mr. Prince when he asks if Spot likes milkmen and Lily tells him yes, so much so that he kept burying the last one in the back yard.

Perhaps Beverley Owens best appearance just one episode away from leaving the series. Owens demure beauty shines as her insomnia is cured permanently by Grandpa's sleeping beauty potion and then reawakened by a kiss.

The writing was top notch in this episode. All too soon the show would fall into repetition and silliness transforming Herman from the typical late 50's and early 60's sitcom dad to an insufferable childlike buffoon.

Williams, MacLeod Guest Star

This episode which is really two stories: Marilyn and her insomnia, and Grandpa's cure, and Grandman's magic pill that turns water into gasoline which draws interest from a nearby oil company.

Grandpa gives Marilyn a "Sleeping Beauty pill" instead of a normal sleeping pill. Only a prince can wake her up and that turns out to be "Richard A. Prince"(Grant Williams, who played the lead in the '50s sci-fi classic "The Incredible Shrinking Man ) representing the Reliable Oil Company, who comes to the house not for Marilyn but to get a deal and his pill invention.

Gavin MacLeod of "Mary Tyler Moore" and "Love Boat" TV fame, has a two-minute guest spot. He is young, has dark hair (or a wig) and a deeper voice but you can't mistake his nasal voice and accent.

Overall, a so-so episode. Seen better; seen worse.

Grant Williams...

I caught this episode the other night and was surprised to see Grant Williams of sci-fi fame playing Mr. "Prince". Watching him in this made me wonder if he could have had a decent career acting in rom-coms. He was certainly handsome and charming enough. All in all another sweet episode in the life of an average American family.
