Shortly after, Bud dies in the fire at Fred's store, which is suspected to be arson. But Bud was first killed by a blow to the head. Jessica helps the sheriff discover secret motives for either fire or murder.—KGF Vissers
- At home in Cabot Cove, Jessica finds herself investigating the death of Bud Fricksey, a volunteer fireman, who called in a fire at Owen's furniture store but was subsequently found on the floor having apparently died of smoke inhalation. Bud was well-known for having a hot temper and was recently seen arguing with Carl Wilson over a business deal that he lost out on. Later, he accused Ron Stiller of having an affair with his wife, Lois. An insurance investigator confirms that the fire was arson and the autopsy says Bud had been struck on the head. Jessica, however, can't help but think that Bud's death is related to a lost letter she found in an old bureau and delivered to Bud. Greed is at the root of it all.—garykmcd
