Murphy Brown, the Wicked Witch of Washington.
mark.waltz30 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
That becomes very obvious as Margaret Hamilton's theme from "The Wizard of Oz" is heard as Murphy chases President George H. W. Bush through the park as he jogs to get a quote, simply so she can prove to herself that in spite of being pregnant, she can still do her job. This concern becomes clear when Gene (Alan Oppenheimer) questions whether or not she should remain on the air because he predicts that there will be critical reaction to her situation based upon the morality of her situation. Murphy becomes desperate, and knowing that she's no longer welcome in the White House, is desperate for any type of connection with the president. She tries get Frank trained to jog, but nearly cripples him, and takes the desperate method by hiding in the park bushes along side Bush's regular trail which she jumps out of, and unable to keep up, grabs a kid's bike and literally chases the president down a hill. The sight of Murphy being escorted back into FYI by the secret service is hysterical, as is the president's note to her boss, Miles. Very funny and good material to drag quotes out of the real White House, particularly by VP Dan Quayle, already the butt of "Murphy Brown" jokes.
