We're catholic. We get married, we have kids, we get old and we die.

So says the legendary Rose Marie, playing Frank's mother, celebrating her 50th anniversary to husband Barney Martin (aka "the cheese man" from "Golden Girls'), and it's apparent that they've remain together simply because they feel they have no choice. They don't hate each other, but they just seem bored with each other. They are also at the age when they say exactly what is on their mind, and they are very funny without trying to be funny. This is life. This is what makes getting older worth it, and Frank's parents are unforgettable characters. For some reason, Murphy doesn't want them inside but that's changed by a thunderstorm, and Frank has a confession to Murphy about his feelings towards his family that has Murphy trying to smooth things over. It's thanks to Murphy that Frank gets the courage to stand up to do something that he doesn't want to do, and what it shows is that Frank has gotten so deep into his exciting life that he's forgotten the simplicity of his parents life and the life he grew up with. An insightful view as to why families are messed up even if they are the only families we've got. Frank may not come out of this a more understanding person, but at least he learns something about how to communicate with them as his life goes into a direction that is far from theirs.
