Trivia or comment?...

I found it interesting that the credits for the pilot episode (and others) show the Copyright date in Roman Numerals as "MCMXLIII", which is the number 1943 in our more familiar "Arabic" (normal) numbers. Maybe this was on purpose, but I doubt it.

The correct Roman Numerals for the actual Copyright date of 1963 are MCMLXIII. Maybe the Titles artist was dyslexic, or more likely, careless (or just poorly educated).

In any case, this is a small piece of trivia for those who find joy in catching mistakes.

Othewise, the show holds up remarkably well for an average-price sitcom of the era.

Pilot based on real UFO Event
DavidSereda3 August 2006
I used to watch this show when I was a kid growing up in Berkeley, California in the early 60s. This is a TV show that needs to be re-run as is in the 21st century to remind us of what intelligent and pure living was like in the 19503-60s. It is also so funny. I prefer it over any TV show today. The pilot episode is in fact based on a real UFO event recorded by Time Magazine, July 27th, 1962. Major White who test flew the X-15 at supersonic speeds reportedly saw a UFO out of his window while in flight. Back then, Time reported UFO encounters by Expert Witnesses and did not make fun of them. Today, we must See "Dan Aykroyd, Unplugged on UFOs" to know this is all real.

I wish I could have met the cast! They are all passed away and perhaps know the truth that we are not alone in the universe.

Aside from the annoying laugh track, quite enjoyable.
planktonrules5 August 2018
Last night, my brother was talking with me and said "A lot of old shows we watched as kids really aren't bad. I recently watched "My Favorite Martian" and was shocked how much I enjoyed it"....so I decided to try seeing the pilot episode. It was pretty good and my only complaint is the laugh track...something rather ubiquitous in TV comedies...and something not necessary as well as distracting. It was MORE distracting here because the pilot episode really was NOT very funny...nor was it really meant to be. This is not a complaint...the show was enjoyable. As for the show, while I cannot say much about later episodes (since I saw them more than 40 years ago), what I saw in the pilot was quite enjoyable and left me wanting more.
