An Interesting Future

When Connie's sister bails Frank out of jail, the results are catastrophic The main focus is on a couple guys who killed a sixteen year old boy in order to get his bike. Identity is a problem. Medavoy is embarrassed when he turns his back on a suspect in the interrogation room.

Warning: Spoilers
As this episode is written, the results of the lieutenant considering detective MacDowell's sister, a low priority, are tragic. Her sister was in an abusive relationship, and the many years of established patterns that Connie brings up, are proof that police are knowledgeable on the subject. The husband murders her, through the beatings and the camera is showing the lieutenant retreat, almost sheepishly, to his office. This reviewer will make the assumption that Bochco views the police leadership as misogynistic, after viewing the editing.

Warning: Spoilers
The multi-episode arc revolving around Connie's sister Michelle comes to a final and tragic end in the fifth episode of the season. I had a bad feeling right from the outset that things weren't going to end well, and here we are. Really good acting from Charlotte Ross and Dennis Franz.

The interview scene where Sipowicz (and Ortiz) is listening to Frank try to downplay the whole thing, not knowing that Michelle is actually dead is very powerful.

The arc sets up a new challenge for Connie and Sipowicz by default.

Medavoy also has a rough episode. He is whacked in the side of the head by a witness he is interviewing solo wielding one of the interview room chairs, and can do nothing but watch as said witness jumps out the window.

For nervous, highly-strung Medavoy, this is bad news above and beyond the fact that he wore a chair to the head. He is suffering a bit of a crisis of confidence as the episode ends.
