Parrot This for Me!
Hitchcoc16 September 2021
Several interesting things, some bizarre, some funny. The most stunning part of the episode is an investigation of someone who built a torture chamber in his basement, drugged and kidnapped young girls, and set the free. It is hard to watch their pain as their repressed memories open up during interrogation. There is also a sixty year old woman who is having multiple sexual experiences, inviting anyone interested into her bedroom. See who her last one is. And then there is Gibson's parrot who squawks loudly, disrupting the squad. But Andy has a solution and it is hilarious.

I wonder if it happened this way . . .

Warning: Spoilers
I have this idea that Gordon Clapp went into the writer's room and reminded them that this was his eleventh season on the show. He then pointed out that every other detective who had been on the show had had sexual encounters, some of them with multiple partners. Meanwhile he had not had any sexual relationships with anyone in all that time, and could they please correct that situation.

The writers then apologized, told him that he was right and said that they'd write a storyline for his character to have a sexual relationship. They then proceeded to hook him up with a sixty-plus year old woman.

The moral of this (imagined) story - don't mess with the writers.

Funniest Episode Ever?

The prank Andy played on Gibson and his squawking bird (foreshadowed by Clark saying, "You are going straight to Hell for this") was oddly reminiscent of the jokes J.D. Larue played on...well, everyone during nearly every season of "Hill Street Blues." Classic.

A rare mess of an episode?
Observer_202030 April 2020
Most episodes of the series are good to great. Some stories can fall into a formula but they are still entertaining, in part because of the strong characters. But this episode? Not so much.

One story was particularly gruesome, involving descriptions of kidnapping and extended torture. The scenes weren't graphic as most of the events took place in the past. This story was paired with a case that turned into an absolute farce. Almost like something one would see in a 1980s sex comedy. It was very out of character for this show. Of course there were many moments of humor throughout the series. But I don't recall seeing farcical scenes involving any of the main characters until this episode.

Some may enjoy the over-the-top comedy bit, but it felt like those scenes were jammed into the wrong show. This episode was a rare miss for the writing team.
