PLEASE---SOMEBODY, PUT HER OUT OF HER MISERY
lrrap21 February 2020
Interesting that the actor who plays the step-father Chuck in the opening scenes, under the name of Douglas Fletcher Rodgers, created the role of Ezra Yoder, an oafish Amish guy who sings the hilarious song "Why not Katie?" in the 1955 Broadway musical "Plain and Fancy", with music by Albert Hague (of 1966's "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" fame).

Other than this incidental, anecdotal trivia, "Show Me the Way.." is an utter, TOTAL BOMB, starting with Louise Albritton's broad, high-school drama-level performance. Once the odd couple of Bert Brickerhoff and Lois Nettleton encounter the bag lady-- played by Celia Adler (of the famous Yiddish Theater family of actors), the episode descends into a black hole of nothing-ness. I ended up hoping they would just shoot the old hag, put her out of her misery, call the cops, and turn themselves in.

That would have been the merciful thing for them to do-- for Celia AND FOR US, the unlucky viewers of this sorry mess.

One of the absolute worst. LR

Homeless in New York
kapelusznik1827 September 2014
***SPOILERS*** After viciously assaulting his widowed mom Elva Keyling's, Louise Albritton, boyfriend Chuck, Douglas Rodgers, her mentally unstable son Danny Keyling, Burt Brickerhoff, took off fearing that if caught he'll be committed to the Bellevue psycho ward with no chance of getting out. Now on the run from the police as well as himself Danny hooks up with next door neighbor Marie Marianni, Louis Nettleton, whom he had his eye on for years. Just before Danny can make a play for Marie up pops this homeless bag lady, Celia Adler, who just got fired from her job and needs car-fear to go home back on the Island: Long Island.

This all frustrates Danny in having the girl of his dreams, Marie, more interested in finding the bag lady a place to stay then going out with him on a date! It's not that Marie is at all interested in Danny, she thinks he's some kind of a nut, but is stuck with him in that he doesn't take no for an answer! With the police closing in on him Danny in finding the bag lady a place to stay is encouraged by Marie to take her to a homeless shelter on the east side of Manhattan. The fact that the shelter is connected to Bellevue Hospital, that's known for its psychiatric treatment of unstable persons like himself, has Danny freak out in feeling that he going to be committed there!

***SPOILERS*** It's both Marie as well as the bag lady who convince Danny, while holding a knife on them and the hospital staff, that everything is all right and no one's out to hurt him. This prevented a blood bath that was averted by getting the crazed and hyperventilating Danny Keyling to cool off and stop being paranoid in that they, Marie the bag lady and his mom, have his best interests at heart. As for the homeless bag lady she ended up getting a free ride home, as well as hot meal, courtesy of the NYPD.
