13-year-old Hal (David Doremus) is dreading the youth council dance. While there, however, a groovy girl, Bunny Whitmire (Chris Gilmore, who has become a casting director in recent years) asks him to dance. He awkwardly arranges a date to go to the movies the next day then gets caught up in telling the 15-year-old that he's 16. She calls the Everett household the next morning and tells where she wants Hal to pick her up. This causes Nanny (Juliet Mills) to cover for him and drive them to the movies. When Bunny's friends meet them on the sidewalk afterward, Hal is pressured into driving them to an ice cream parlor, but Nanny comes in time to apply some implied magic into the situation. Hal shows maturity in realizing he must tell Bunny his age, but the resolution is a welcomed twist for him.
This season 3 opener begins with a major difference. Boy, did David Doremus really grow over one summer! He is much taller and his voice deeper. Prudence (Kim Richards) is noticeably older as well and more fluent with her dialogue.
