This was Donna Douglas's last television appearance. Douglas played 'Elly Mae Clampett' on 'The Beverly Hillbillies (1962)' and in the closing scene of this episode, Donna and the cast paid homage to the 'Hillbillies' by waving goodbye to viewers.
The character 'Maury Sherry' (Hal Linden) is an insider's nod to real-life former MGM vice president in charge of production Dore Schary and to 'Don Juan Is Shelved (1955)', one of Fran's favorite TV series, in which Schary is impersonated by Philip Ober.
