There's a very funny "West Side Story" reference in this episode guest starring Oscar winner Rita Moreno, playing the Nazi like gym teacher who once flunked Fran and now threatens to flunk Maggie. She's hysterical in her delight of torturing her students, quite alive in spite of being brought out with absolutely no makeup. This certainly makes up for the fiasco of the "Empty Nest" episode of "Golden Girls", considered the worst of that series.
Then there's the other plot, equal in focus, and dealing with another form of modern Nazi: the demanding actor. Joseph Bologna (real life husband of Renee Taylor) plays Alan Neck, cast as FDR and demanding not to be in a wheelchair. The mild mannered Maxwell must grow some extra spine to deal with Bologna's demands, just as Fran does with Moreno.
