The title is from the song "Thanks for the Memory" composed by Ralph Rainger, with lyrics by Leo Robin and was introduced in The Big Broadcast of 1938 (1938) by Bob Hope and Shirley Ross eventually becoming Bob Hope's theme song.
Larry, Darryl, and Darryl mistake Loudon and co for "Thanksgiving elves", and Dick has to specifically tell them they are not elves. Bob Newhart later portrayed one of Santa's elves in Elf (2003).
