Chris has been taking flying lessons with Maggie. He is a natural pilot, doing everything very well. But now he has to pass a rather intense written test, when panic becomes a bigger obstacle than gravity. Money has been stolen from the petty cash fund in Joel's office. Marilyn knows who took it and this leads to some sleuthing--sort of. But most interesting is an old diary from 1897 that Ed finds in Ruth Anne's cellar. It would seem that four men were caught in a blizzard and three had to resort to cannibalism to stay alive. Ruth's uncle died and the others munched on him. One of the munchers was related to Holling. This causes a rift in the friendship.
