SO ambivalent about this episode!! (But in a good way!)

Warning: Spoilers
Parts of this episode are pure magic. Parts are "What were the writers thinking?!" And part of my review is that I'm looking at it with 32 years of hindsight, after this groundbreaking series became something that other series built upon and were better than. This series changed my view of what tv should be, and this episode may have been what that catalyzing moment when my expectations were raised! (Ok, I just have to note that I'm really pi..., um, annoyed at how many characters imdb requires of a review. But I digress.) This episode advances the characters of Joel and Maggie and (maybe?) Maurice spectacularly and SO subtlety! Just beautiful!

It would seem that every time Joel wants to get away, some force of nature steps in to make it hard. This time it's a recurring dream that Maggie has that Fleischman will die in a plane crash (he is going to be flying to New York). Chris analyses the dream and Joel is spooked, but can't accept that Maggie may have that power over his decisions. We know, of course, they are attracted to each other and that is developing, so nothing is that simple. A stumbling block is a young doctor that is subbing for Joel and he becomes a threat to our guy. In another segment, Maurice is sleeping with a married woman (she is an astronaut groupie) and while in bed, he stops breathing and it may be sleep apnea. I especially enjoyed the final scene where Joel shows up at Maggie's place. It is subtle and sweet.

I've been really getting into these characters. However this is the first episode so far that I've given a perfect 10. I don't know why but this one really hit the sweet spot for me.

I found the writing to be very clever. It felt like there were no wasted or filler scenes. Every sub-plot was engaging. Just totally enjoyable from start to finish and lots of audible chuckling from me.

I continue to enjoy the dream sequences and the ones in this episode were particularly interesting.

Gives me lots of hope and excitement for where the series is heading.

I like that Joel is becoming more attached and protective of Cicely. Very cute.
