Best episode so far.

Nellie is a little jealous, when Northern widow Gladys Nuttall, turns her attentions on her father, she believes Gladys has evil dimensions.

I think this was my favourite episode so far, worn all of the characters now firmly established, the writers were able to have a bit of fun, plenty of laughs throughout this one.

Nellie is outrageously funny, her mispronunciations, her Nellie-isms are on point throughout.

It was nice to see Nellie and Jed back up North, embracing the warm northern hospitality, Gladys was funny.

Once again, I'd say the parallels between this and Nearest and Dearest are almost exact, it's the same brand of humour, I spent six series wondering if Slater was going to speak, now I'm wondering the same about Gilbert, what a smart guy.

Look at the diversity of characters here.

Very funny, 8/10.

Warning: Spoilers
Nellie celebrates her parents wedding anniversary by taking her father Jed to a trip up north.

Back at Bolton she runs into twice widowed Gladys Nuttall. Both former husbands were muscular men but none could outlast Gladys.

Nellie is shocked to learn that both her husbands are buried either side of her dear mum.

Now Gladys has turned her gaze on her father Jed. She even shows up at the pub in London. Nellie is not having her father being Gladys husband number 3.

Meanwhile a German visitor to the pub expresses an interest in Nellie but she does not want her father to be out of her sight.

It turns out that there is an innocent explanation regarding why Gladys wanted to see Jed. It was for marital advice from Gladys suitor in Bolton.

The comedy has a settled on a formula. Gilbert always has a loud daring outfit. Gladys always bumps her face into Beryl's bosom. Then there are Nellie's malapropisms.

At least Nellie has got familiar with her cockney rhyming slang.

This one had a mild homophobic joke, maybe ginger beer was funny back in the mid 1970s.

I watched this episode with my wife and she was amazed how Nellie could be Jed's daughter. It seems Hylda Baker was 5 years older than the actor who played her dad!
