The technique of telling the same story from different points of view was used previously in the movie "Rashomon" as well as an episode of "The Dick Van Dyke Show", in which Rob and Laura tell their versions of an argument in flashback.

For some of the flashback scenes that take place in the kitchen, the downstage counter has been removed, likely to allow the director to capture unobstructed long shots.
