I caught this episode of the ODD COUPLE one afternoon, and it brings back soooo many memories.
What I always loved about the show were the over the top characters who slipped in and out of each episode. This is a prime example.
The story is short and sweet, but it gets complicated for our heroes, naturally. Sad, depressed, rejected Felix wants to hook up again with his ex-wife. But what to do, and always a recurring theme. This time.... How about engraving a watch for Gloria, and with the words "One more chance..." which was their special, heart-felt song? Hmmm?
The torture continues, thanks to some of Oscar's "friends with baggage", such as shifty pawn shop owner Herb Vigran (as Louie) --whose business is robbed and with it goes the watch! More complications, and more kooky folks, such as big guy Michael Constantine as a goon and not to forget Richard Stahl (this time playing a florist), best in obnoxious roles. Stahl was also popular in movies, and at the time had appeared in FIVE EASY PIECES and BILLY JACK.
The gangs all here and what an ordeal for poor Felix. And I agree with the last reviewer, no one can make depression so much fun as Tony Randall.
Expertly directed by old pro Alan Rafkin, who had connections to so many classic sitcoms, including LOVE AMERICAN STYLE (at the time) and the BOB NEWHART SHOW.
A 10 out of 10 for sure. From SEASON 1 remastered dvd box set.
