Stan is troubled by constant stomach aches, which he puts down to 'bus driver's stomach'. Arthur tells him his condition is down to his regular consumption of fried food, particularly chips. At his mother's insistence he is made to see a doctor as well as going on a diet.
Worse to come, Blakey insists that at the depot, the busmen must undergo a medical. Those who do not pass will be sacked...
'Bus Driver's Stomach' was the best of the first set of episodes of 'On The Buses'. Mum is painted out here to be something of a hypocrite - chastising Stan for eating too many chips, only then to steal them off his plate the minute he is gone. Nosher Powell makes his first 'Buses' appearance here as Bert, the huge busman whose physiotherapy towards Stan to ease his stomach cramps leaves him in an even worse state!
Funniest bit - Mum reminding Stan that he once got ill on holiday from eating too many chips. Stan then reminds her that on that same day he had cockles, six ice creams, two plates of jellied eels, a candy floss, a ride on a roller coaster and a kick in the stomach from Olive all in the space of half an hour.
