It's a solid episode.

The Station had just installed a creche to help out, a sister runs it, but an assistant is needed, Jack suggests Olive.

So, why the really low score, it's not a classic, but it's far from bad. There are one or two negatives, the sister for one, she's a monster, she has all the care and affection of a mousetrap. Not too sure about the baby food scene, surreal, definitely, not too sure if it was funny.

Poor Olive, she's not had a good track record with jobs, everything has gone wrong, and of course that trend doesn't change here.

That scene with Olive and the dummy.... I had to repeat it a few times, it's genuinely a laugh out loud funny scene, and definitely the best moment.

7/10.

Warning: Spoilers
What a sweet kind nurse.

"We got another baby, sister." "Oh, no, not another one!" The outrage there would have been in America to show a woman such as this handling infants. Even if it was meant as a joke.

Yet there was no laughter here with this woman.

This was the first episode on the set of six episodes that were released on VHS in America.

Very informative to see Olive handle the doll, as well as Jack and Stan eating the baby food.

Back to that old cow of a nurse, extremely interesting in that she spoke calmly to the clumsy Olive, but would bark at everyone else.

I guess Jack, Stan and Blakey could take it of course.

Very amusing puns here with Blake and the babies needing changing.

"He pulls out his clipboard," Jack says, "and they all start to run!"

R.I.P Anna Karen, 1936 -2022

Warning: Spoilers
It's sad enough that days ago we lost Jack Smethurst from 'Love Thy Neighbour' but today the tragic death of Anna Karen was revealed. Unlike Jack, who passed away peacefully in his sleep. Anna's death was tragically revealed to have been involved with a house fire. Being a lifelong fan of both Anna and indeed 'On The Buses', I feel it is my duty to pay tribute to the woman by reviewing an episode containing what I regard to be one of her finest performances.

The bus depot has opened up a creche for the children of the clippies. The nurse in charge is a cheerless old cow who barks orders at everyone, even the inspector. Her mood is further not helped by the fact that Blakey has not been able to hire an assistant to help her out. An idea dawns on Stan. Olive could do the job.

Later that evening, Stan and mum show Olive how to care for a baby by demonstrating on a doll. After some initial setbacks, she manages to get it right and gets the job. The nurse seems happy enough with her new helper and entrusts her to look after the babies while she goes on her lunch break. All goes well until she loses her glasses whilst trying to change one of the babies nappies..

Poor Olive can't do anything right, can she? She failed as a clippie, then failed as a canteen cook, here she failed spectacularly as a nursery assistant. One wonders why Blakey saw fit to take her on. Great work from Anna Karen in this funny little episode and in the eyes on 'Buses' fans all over the world, she will not be forgotten lightly.

Funniest bit - Olive accidentally knocking off the head of the doll whilst practicing how to bring up a baby's wind. ''Don't worry, that won't happen with a real baby.'', says mum reassuringly. ''With her in charge, I'm not so sure!'' quips Stan!
