Classic comedy. It's pure gold.
Sleepin_Dragon8 August 2021
Del has made the acquaintance of ex jeweller Arnie, retired but offering one final deal of a lifetime, it seems too good to be true.

An out and out classic, it is a seriously funny episode, one that definitely gets your pulse racing, it's both funny and exciting, pure comedy gold right through to the clever ending.

It's great to see such a big cast operating here, we have all the big players, with big parts for Mike and Boycie. Lots of significant stuff happening outside from the main action, including Del meeting Cassandra for the first time.

Philip McGough is terrific is Arnie, he makes for a great character.

Fabulous, 9/10.

Nostalgic (over 1/2 Hour) Classic episode...

Well, not to spoil 1 of the best ever episodes by just adding some appreciation for this in particular. Addicted to Only Fools & Horses for decades & find self revisiting either 'Chain Gang' or 'Jolly Boys Outing' most regarding 'Episodes over half-hour'. Just adore the 6th Season/Series + that particular 'Special' most.

For this installment mainly being it's a clever plot especially 1st time around! Literally jaw dropping moments, but also great characters + the usual OFAH crew. Though (eg:) Arnie the Conman features here so enough said. Let alone various other incidents that make this so much fun to witness. Again & again. Just fits in with the rest of the episodes in Series 6 perfectly. All great, but if had to pick a winner then Chain Gang it is. (( *HR* ;-))

A proper caper
dominicparis18 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The best episodes of OFAH are the ones that Include lots of our beloved characters involved in a proper caper. Here, the boys form a consortium to buy 259 gold chains for a bargain price. All expect to clean up but it all goes pear-shaped and they have to work together in order to get their dosh back. Brilliantly written and performed, this episode gives us everything we want to see; dodgy deals, wheeling, dealing, cock-ups, sly scheming and a clever resolution that sees our boys winning in the end. You can't pull the wool over Del's eyes and expect to get away with it!

Chain Gang

This is an episode that starts slow but develops into something wonderful, ending up as a great old fashioned caper that displays how much of an ensemble piece 'Only Fools' could be.

All the supporting characters get there moment, and there's some iconic scenes and lines along the way.

Amongst the very high standards of Series 6 it may seem a weaker episode, but I really enjoy it each time once it hits its stride.

Who Said Anything About Cutting the Chain Off!?

This is a bit like the Frog's Legacy, or To Hull and Back. There are funny moments but the general feel is that the episode is more about telling an interesting story than it is providing laughs.

It's a shame it takes so long to get going though. It is a decent episode and would have worked well as a 30 minute effort but these 50 minute run-times that make up series 6 have so far been full of high quality laughs and excellent performances and this one fails in many ways to make the same use of the time, struggling on occasion to fill it. The second half is better than the first and we see that Rodney's relationship with Cassandra is beginning to flourish.

This isn't bad, not by any stretch, but compared with the incredibly high standard we've had over the last three episodes it's just a run-of-the-mill affair.
