Del was originally going to appear on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (1998) with Chris Tarrant making a guest appearance. However, ITV did not grant the rights for it to be used on repeat runs of the episode, so instead a fictional quiz show was created to be used and Jonathan Ross made an appearance as host.
Many people consider the 1996 Christmas trilogy the story's true conclusion rather than the 2001/2002/2003 trilogy; that was the moment when the curtain came down on Only Fools and Horses (1981). David Jason acknowledged that the critics felt they shouldn't have gone back to it, that the bow so neatly tied in 1996 was now undone again. But the public wanted more, and so did the BBC, and John Sullivan was writing it, so everyone felt obligated to return.
A sketch involving Rodney and a dirty magazine was edited out of the final version.
In the trailers for this episode, a stretch 3 wheeled van was shown but never made the final cut. It never really existed, just a superimposed picture.
