A new assignment sees the platoon tasked to guard Iraqi prisoners in a poorly set up, makeshift compound. At this point, a new lieutenant takes command of the platoon and is determined to get rid of Pvt. Maurice Williams, aka Smoke. The Lt. makes it known to Sgt. Chris Silas, aka Scream, that he does not like nicknames. One of his first actions was to inform Pvt. Brenda Mitchell, aka Mrs. B, that her son is ill, having been diagnosed with autism. He offers her a five-day compassionate leave to visit her son, which she immediately accepts and departs for home. Meanwhile, Pfc. Bo Rider is now at home trying to adjust to life as an amputee with his wife Terry and their baby son 'Tank'.
