"Anatomy of a Tonsil" features DAKTARI's Marshall Thompson as Dr. Milstead, who diagnoses Danny's simple sore throat as tonsillitis. A regular viewer of MARCUS WELBY M.D. (we actually see Robert Young in a short clip), Danny 'laughs in the face of danger,' but his brave face panics when his buddy Punky Lazaar (Gary Dubin) convinces him that it's really a dangerous operation that he might not survive. Reuben looks on the bright side of things: "he may not be able to talk for days!" Even surviving the ordeal isn't enough, as Danny now fears his voice is gone, so the family decides to find a redheaded replacement who 'loves children, dogs, and his country.' Gary Dubin would return as Punky in five other episodes, the next being "The Partridge Connection." The featured song is very special indeed, "Love Is All That I Ever Needed," the second of three composed by David Cassidy himself, here in collaboration with Wes Farrell (the closing track from SOUND MAGAZINE). The first, also written with Farrell, was "Lay It on the Line," from second LP UP TO DATE, one of the heaviest tracks heard on any Partridge release, but never featured on the series. The third Cassidy track would be "There'll Come a Time," from fifth LP SHOPPING BAG, featured in the third season's "The Selling of the Partridge." Watch Danny's fingers work the opening bass licks for this Cassidy rocker, probably his best job of miming in any episode.
