The Salingers are still having bad times overall. They spent worst times, but things are not great. Julia made a mistake in her job at the museum so her boss decides to fire her, but she threats him about the flirting and kiss, so he backs off. She suffers and when Griffin finds out the problem, he gets mad and almost hits her boss, and she reveals the whole story. She feels too young to be married and working, so she did everything to get the job, flirting with her boss. Finally, she apologizes to both of them, her boss does the same, and end up in good terms. At the end, she keeps working there, now presenting herself to people as Julia Holbrook. This storyline was somehow good, showed that for obvious reasons, Julia and Griffin are not ready to live the life they are living, and the one who is trying harder is her, despite her mistakes. She admitted what she did and how she feels, but Griffin acted like a boyfriend, nothing more. Besides, it's weird that she says he is her husband, because it doesn't feel like it's true. There is no full trust between them.
As for Charlie, he learns that Nina might leave for a grant work for two months in China, about birds-biology stuff, so he feels let down. To make him even more upset, there are roof's problems in the house and the restaurant. Then, turns out that Nina won't leave, but following the bad luck with repairs and Salinger's out of business for two weeks, he feels bad. When Nina, Owen, Claudia and the repair guys dance and play in the "destroyed" restaurant, Charlie gets mad and turns down all the noise. In the zoo, while healing birds, He tells Nina she is too optimistic and she says he would complain even if he won the lotto. Anyway, at the end, they agree to take the restaurant's problems as a little holiday and with Owen free the bird they healed. This story wasn't so good or enjoyable as other Charlie's stories, but somehow was the truth. After all the things that happened to him, especially with Kirsten, he has the right to feel depressed and negative. He already had the restaurant out of business for two weeks, burned down (2x07), and he didn't complain much that time, because he had the love of his life then. But now, he is not happy, he seems depressed deep inside, he can smile with Claudia, Nina or Owen sometimes, but in this season so far, he seems sad and serious. And that's ok, is how he has to feel, he suffered too much.
To finish, there's Bailey-Annie, Sarah story. Bailey helps Annie with the rent, loaning her 200$, and Sarah gets mad at him. When they receive a letter from Hank, the landlord, that says that Annie will be evicted from her apartment for debts, Bailey confronts her and she gives her explanation: Annie got sober but her husband Jay didn't, so she took legal measures to separate and stay with Natalie's custody, that took her much money so now she needs more working time to pay the rent. Sarah visits them, finds Natalie alone and gives her the letter, but she starts to feel compassion for the little girl. Anyway, Bailey is the one who helps them, delaying the evicting process because the department is damaged, so Annie visits Sarah to thanks them. There she learns that Bailey and Sarah are not together together, and then she kisses with Bailey while painting. There are good parts of this story like Annie and Natalie struggles, but on the other hand, Sarah's behavior was rare coming from her. Like Bailey said, she drew the line and living together was her initial idea, so it's strange that she wouldn't let him help a single mother with a young child, who are on their own. Jealousy is not a good excuse. Anyway, Bailey crossed a line here, because he knows that starting something with Annie will hurt Sarah.
