Gesundheit, Patty
JordanThomasHall12 May 2020
Patty is suffering from a spell of unrelenting sneezing. Dr. Fayer (Matt Crowley) investigates it to conclude she's allergic to Cathy. He studies her schedule to find she's fine when she's not around Cathy and advises they keep their distance from one another. It leaves the family in mystified sadness. Cathy feels is psychosomatic from Patty's resentment toward her. After being teased at the ice cream parlor, Cathy confronts Patty with being schizophrenic and having two personalities. Martin and Natalie talk with Patty about her allergy to Cathy stemming from jealousy and competitiveness. That may not be the true issue, however.

A plot taken from The Dick Van Dyke Show, "Gesundheit, Darling" (1962). Interestingly, later in life Patty Duke was indeed diagnosed with having two personalities. This was picked up on early by series creator Sidney Sheldon to form the basis of the show. It is fascinating how the viewer sees the two characters with little thought of it being the same actress.
