Ross enters Patty's picture in New York Metropolitan's Beautiful Teens Contest in hopes of winning the first prize- a 24" portable TV. He plans to give it to his parents as an anniversary present. The entry must include a short bio that he heavily embellishes. Ross intercepts Patty's letter notifying that she is a finalist in the contest and requesting an in-person competition based on the talents listed within the entry. Ross explains the reason, but Patty angrily refuses before Cathy reasons her into it. When she faces on-stage questions she is baffled by having to answer to Ross' wild tales about her and her parents. The judges enjoy her pop song "Tell Me Mama" and request an aria from her operatic expertise that Ross wrote. Cathy steps in to unknowingly switch places in areas she is more skilled. Guilt sinks in to cast a shadow over their plans, however.
