The BBC "Guilty Party" timeclock has the recording number VTC/6HT/64611 and project number 2240/4383. These related to this actual edition of Paul Temple (1969).
The basic story idea came from writer Michael J. Bird, under the title "Cue Credits, Cue Grams, Cue Murder". Characters such as DI Alan Neville and panelist Prof. Leonard Mulvaney were excised, director Robin Grenville-Tullough became Robin Tullough, his PA Jane Bevin was rechristened Jenny, and "Guilty Party" producer Grahame Alton switched genders as Genine Dalton. Bird's climactic ending would have seen a chase through the BBC studios.
The genuine BBC crew seen on camera were all delighted to receive "In Vision Appearance" payments.
Credited author David Simon is a pseudonym hiding producer Derrick Sherwin and script editor Martin Hall.
