Betsy Jones-Moreland, who played the wife of the character charged with the murder, frequently played the judge in the Perry Mason TV movies in the 1990s.
In the book, Garvin approaches Mason about his concerns regarding his Mexican divorce and marriage. In the TV episode, the ex-wife tells Mason about it. In the book, Mason is the one who discovers the trick with the stockholder meeting proxies, and informs Garvin of the problem in Mexico. In the book, the "mystery woman" is not a private detective. The TV episode leaves out a fascinating vehicle ID switch that infuriates authorities for the remainder of the story, and turns out to be more important than even Mason initially suspected.
The set used as Garvin's office is actually the same one used as Perry's office in every episode. Since Garvin 's business is in the same building as Mason's, they simply gave the set a quick make-over. Instead of the blinds Mason has, the large picture window has drapes (which are seen partially closed to cover the city-scape outside the window) and the placement of the furniture has been reversed, so Garvin's desk is against the opposite wall from Mason's and the back door usually used by Paul Drake is now the main entrance.
This is one episode where William Talman's name is missing from the opening credits.
A different title and credits sequence is used for the opening of this episode; the picture freezes after Perry takes the folder from the judge and the title "The Case of..." is superimposed on screen, and instead of introducing the faces of the regulars at the prosecution and defense tables as usual, instead the supporting cast is just listed over the freeze frame of Perry holding the folder.
