- A phony priest totes a Bible into a prison cell and presents it to a convicted murderer. The hollow book contains a gun, which the killer uses to escape. Soon, Peter Gunn is hired by an accident victim cloaked in head bandages, to find his brother. At Mother's nightclub, while Edie chirps "Eisenhower's looks give me a thrill". Mother helps Gunn piece together that the missing "brother" is actually the escapee's robbery partner who kept the take, ducked the rap, and went to ground. The police join the hunt for the deceitful partner.—David Stevens
- Season 1 Episode 27 Breakout Prologue: Minister enters a prisoner's cell, hands over a revolver enclosed in his hollowed bible, prisoner incapacitates guard, changes into his uniform, gun butts next guard, making his way out. Pete enters a man's apartment with a plaster cast covering his head, asking Pete to locate his brother, Frank Norbert, paying Pete $2,000. Pete hands over the fee to Sergeant Rainey in Jacoby's absence, finds out Joe Tabor is the escapee, and Tabor killed a guard in a payroll heist, $300,000 never recovered. There were no collisions reported by the HP last week per Rainey, thus defeating the story given to Pete by the masked client. Information from Rainey to Pete on Norbert is he owns a barber shop which is a front for something the police would want to find out more and Norbert has a good lawyer. A stop at the barbershop leads to a cold reception and a fast exit, thanks to a barber, a henchman and a shoe shine boy. Mother's is hopping, Edie singing, Pete going to the terrace, the owner helping look for Norbert who has gone underground for reasons unknown. Mother tells Norbert is at his father's, a restaurant, Pete exits only to be forced at gunpoint by the henchman into a waiting car. He is taking to the barbershop, meets Norbert, they talk under extreme duress, Pete escapes under gunfire from the henchman and Norbert. Rainey calls Pete at his apartment, Pete tells of unfinished business between Norbert and Tabor about the cut from the heist. Pete meets Jacoby outside father Norbert's restaurant, they go inside, talk to Mr. Norbinski, he says Frank visits, guards a metal box, leaves with the box. Jacoby warns Norbinski about a man coming later to the restaurant, maybe asking for Frank, do try to stop him. Pete calls from Jacoby's car to Tabor, tells Norbert is at the restaurant, use side door, upstairs. The lieutenant and Pete wait along with two pair of policemen, as Tabor shows with a henchman, enters the restaurant, Jacoby says the henchman matches the likes of the minister, Pete says he will be out back. Joe Tabor, gun drawn with henchman, confront Frank sitting on bed. Joe would like his cut. Frank opens box containing the money, reaches back for gun, shoots Tabor, Pete enters with Jacoby, Norbert uses a chair to smash open a window, jumps from second story to a truck bed below, four officers waiting, they shoot Norbert dead. Tabor and henchman are police escorted to a squad, Frank's father laments his dead son while all look at the slain man.
