- Prologue: A well-dressed man leaving William's Gym getting in his car is shot-gunned through the windshield from a convertible, dead behind the wheel. Pete enters parents' restaurant, friend Gino paces, frustrated from the killing of his friend, Gino exits, as Pete greets brother Gus, the mother sits in near shock from her son's death, and the father enters, comforting his wife. Jacoby's office, headline of unfolded newspaper on Lieutenant's desk, he and Pete drinking coffee, he showing Pete the deer shot from the gun killing Tony, professionals! Gino is drunk at Mother's bar, Pete comes in, Gino is gone, Pete sees Edie in back, Mother summons Pete as two hoodlums just took Gino out, beat him bad, Pete finds him in alley, helping him get to his feet, while the two thugs looked like the two that shot Tony, same convertible used in the hit. Pete answers his apartment door, it's Jacoby looking for Gino, who's bed, dazed, Jacoby leaves saying the car Tony was killed in car that belonged to Gino. Jacoby leaves Pete's, Gino gets out of the bed, confronts Pete about Tony. Gino says he leant the car to Tony, his car was down, he borrowed Gino's as he usually drove around before a fight to quell the nerves. Gino tells Pete it was Al Matson managing both fighters, Pete goes to the gym to talk to Al. Al legitimizes himself, doesn't like Gino, he managed Gino as a favor to Tony. Pete said the killing was bought, anyone could have done the buy, Al denies involvement. Pete visits dressing room of woman in the picture seen Al's office, Sharon Moore denies knowing Al well, despite the picture, admits knowing Gino. Pete comes home, finds a drunk Gino, Jacoby at the door, there's a $50,000 insurance policy on Tony's life naming Gino beneficiary, Gino throws a drunken scene in front of Pete and Jacoby. He leaves at the Lieutenant's request, the money it cost for the hit Gino never had, per Jacoby. Pete tells Jacoby Tony is the most popular guy in town and everybody hated Gino's guts. With everybody liking Tony but not Gino, Jacoby and Pete guess the hit was on the wrong man, Tony was using Gino's car, they look alike, it was a mistake Jacoby says, Pete agrees. They both head out, Pete returns to Sharon's dressing room, he is told by her Gino was there and got a call from someone saying they were Pete, and to meet him at the gym. Pete finds Gino in the ring with the two hitmen, Al has a gun drawn on Pete, while the hit man beat up Gino. Al screams at Gino you couldn't keep your hands off of her, referring to Sharon, Al tells his hired thugs to finish him. Pete knocks Al's gun from him, douses the lights, the thugs begin shooting, Pete drops one, waits for the other, Gino awakes from the mat, grabs the gun left from the dead man, shoots the remaining thug as the thug looks for Pete in the dark. Pete can only watch Gino in the ring afterward hold his hands to his head, crying in disgust.
