- B E Raleigh places something into a hidden wall safe before preparing for bed. As he rides a stair elevator an ax swings across in front of him almost sending him into cardiac arrest. Gunn arrives at the house at the request of Raleigh who explains he only has months to live, then shows Gunn a threatening letter from his nephew, Martin Raleigh, who had previously stolen money from Raleigh and gone to jail. Raleigh wants Martin found and stopped from completing his threat. Raleigh also explains his nephew was an accomplished guitarist. Talking to Raleigh's nurse, Gunn discovers Martin is concerned all his money will be left to Raleigh's assistant. While investigating the musician lead, Gunn gets a phone call in which Martin claims he's going to kill his uncle then himself. Treating the threat seriously Gunn races back to the house only to find Raleigh dead. Gunn continues his search, first locating Martin's rather odd girlfriend who gives Gunn Martin's address. Arriving he finds Martin dead, an apparent suicide. Gunn returns to Raleigh's house and surprises Mr. Collins, Raleigh's assistant. Gunn confronts him and accuses him of killing both men. Collins attacks Gunn. During the fight Collins falls in a letter opener and dies.—glen_chapman <chapman_glen@yahoo.com>
- Season 1 Episode 32 The Family Affair Prologue: Master of household puts something in his wall safe, retires for the evening, taking his escalating chair up the stairway, two-thirds up the mounted ancient halberd swings toward the man, narrowly missing, obviously frightening him.
Pete calls on the Raleigh manse, butler Emil greets him, our PI enters a room filled with ancient armored suits and a variety of weaponry. Owner is B.E. Raleigh, claiming his nephew Martin Raleigh would be considered a prime suspect in wanting the old man gone, revenge the motive for his past incarceration. Secretary Collins meets Pete as does his private nurse Miss Kelvin. Pete finds a letter opener which tripped a cord holding the halberd.
Edie is at the bar suggesting Mother would know about Martin Raleigh. He was a guitar player, Mother knows of him and that he stole money from his uncle. Emmett knows of Martin, too. Martin was engaged to a Virginia Carter at one time, she worked in the line at the Sutton Theater. There is also a phone call from Martin for Pete threatening to kill Raleigh and then himself.
Pete pulls up to the Raleigh house, he hears two, gun shots from the patio entrance, within seconds he enters through the French doors to see a dead B.E. Raleigh. Emil, Collins, Nurse all view from the inner door as Pete calls police.
Virginia is a photographer, a player with an annoying manner, she identifies Martin from a picture, claiming Martin had rich uncle troubles, all of course against Martin. She gives Martin's picture and address to Pete.
Pete enters Martin's apartment, gun drawn, finds Martin dead lying on his bed with his gun in his right hand, his guitar in room, typed note in capital letters on paper left in typewriter. Pete strums the guitar once right handed and twice left handed, then exits.
Pete jumps over hedge to patio, enters through French doors again, hides, sees Collins put something in the wall safe, walks away and then turns, attacking Pete. Happy with will? He questions Collins, stating seconds after Raleigh was shot, I was at the French doors, no one came through those doors and Martin played a left-handed guitar, the gun was in his right hand. There is a fight with the den's old weapons, finally, Collins falls on a small sword. Too many pieces of evidence point to Collins perpetrating the crime, although dead, the police won't have any problem connecting the pieces.
Bandaged at his apartment, Edie knows what to get him for his birthday...a suit of armor!
