For Want of Trading Stamps
JordanThomasHall24 January 2019
Peter feels threatened by Bill in the upcoming golf tournament. While running an errand for Mary at the trading stamp redemption store, Peter comes across a nice golf set with a putter he is actually successful with. When the clerk (familiar character actor John Fiedler) returns with the five-book electric can opener, Peter asks about the set, which is 30 books. He knows that specific putter is meant for him. Bill is also in the store eyeing the golf set and the two men set out to get 25 more books, keeping their wives' five books. They both begin buying ridiculous kitchen gadgets to get more trading stamps. Mary and Claire try to rein in their husbands from outlandish spending, asking stores to stop their credit. When the titled owner of the trading stamp-giving Johnny's Gas Station and Garage (Jess Kirkpatrick) delivers Peter's car he mentions how they have unclaimed trading stamps every day, and are also shorthanded. Peter starts working at the garage. He tells one woman (Marjorie Bennett) how many calories are in the glue of the stamps, which makes her want no part of licking them- and Peter pockets them. Needing only six more books, Mary insists Peter quit. Peter and Bill try to up one another with gifts to get more stamps, but it is another birthday that leads to a series of heartwarming twists.
