Cop is idiot to try to take out robbers alone.--gets shot (Bernsen) three robbers--two get away.

Skid row accomplices.

When the story begins, three idiots rob a bank. Unfortunately, the first policeman (Corbin Bernsen) to show up at the scene isn't especially bright and he forgets to wait for backup. Not surprisingly, he's shot and killed by the robbers.

The first two gang members are caught easily. After all, they're skid row bums and aren't exactly career criminals. But the ringleader, Billy Bob (Edward Albert) manages to elude the police. This is a problem as he's a sociopath and career criminal...and soon he's committing one robbery and/or murder after another. Despite his very amateurish style, he somehow manages to elude the police for some time and the dead officer's father, a police lieutenant, keeps pressuring the officers in charge of the case to make an arrest.

The film is a good representation of old fashioned police standards. It's also quite exciting and leads to a terrific finale....where the cop in charge pronounces the guy 'rehabilitated'! Very well made and well worth seeing...as are nearly every episode of "Police Story".
