Another highly unusual episode of "Police Story".

Ken Shaner (Claude Akins) and Al Boyd (Paul Burke) have been partners for a decade. However, recently Shaner has been behaving very strangely. He's been quiet and sullen when he's normally a fun guy to be with on the job. Additionally, he's suddenly begun taking chances-- bursting in on dangerous criminals instead of waiting for backup to arrive. At first Boyd thinks nothing of it, but when one suspect gets shot due to Shaner's gung ho actions, he's worried that his friend and partner is cracking up. What is going on with Shaner?!

Once again, "Police Story" offers an episode that explores brand new territory for a cop show. I have never seen a plot like this one--and it's a great story--one well worth seeing. I'd say more about the story, but it would spoil the show--just watch this one.

Fantastic emotional performance by Akins

Warning: Spoilers
Ken Shaner (Claude Akins) has recently celebrated ten years with his partner Al Boyd (Paul Burke) but begins acting weird. He seems to have zero patience and is running into troublesome situations without protocol. This behavior results in a shooting death that has Shaner under investigation. This is another excellent episode and comments well on the rapport that partners build with each other over time. The end is also pretty powerful as Akins' character has terminal cancer and is trying to get himself killed in the line of duty so his wife can receive his benefits. In the end, he accomplishes his goal. Akins is really good in the lead role as a man whose days are numbered. Plus, he has a great sense of humor. Look for skinny Anthony James in a small role (as a crook, naturally).
