- Mary Cherry: Its a vicious circle. Work spend work spend. I cannot be poor under these conditions!
- Lily Esposito: It's a lot easier when you don't have a choice.
- Harrison John: [as Brooke looks at her picture critically] Earth to Brooke.
- Brooke McQueen: Oh, I'm... I'm... sorry. I just look so terrible.
- Harrison John: Well, news-flash. You were in the hospital for an eating disorder.
- [snickers]
- Harrison John: Hey, you know what? Forget this snap. You look great now. That junior-year picture you'll take Friday, it's gonna be Seventeen mag cover stuff.
- Brooke McQueen: You know, I'm not taking yearbook pictures this year.
- Harrison John: Why not? Come on, you've got great style...
- Brooke McQueen: Harrison, did I tell you last year during picture week I only ate an apple?
- Harrison John: You... you lived on an apple for an entire week?
- Brooke McQueen: Yes. I wanted to look perfect for pictures. Look, I... I don't wanna go back to that place, I don't wanna feel those pressures again, so I'm not taking the picture, end of subject.
- [heads off]
- Harrison John: Come on. This is so ridiculous. If you could just see yourself the way...
- Brooke McQueen: I see myself the way that I am, Harrison.
- Harrison John: Relax... huh?
- [pats her on the shoulder]
- Harrison John: Don't be so hard on yourself. Taking the picture this year could be a breakthrough. Why... why don't we just take off all the pressure of looking great for the photo?
- Brooke McQueen: How do we do that?
- Harrison John: Meet me after school, I'll show ya.
- Brooke McQueen: Look, I really appreciate what you're trying to do, but...
- Harrison John: Brooke, you were there for me when I didn't want any help. You walked me through some really serious stuff. Now it's my turn to do that for you. We've become really close friends, you need to trust me.
- [she smiles]
- Harrison John: I can help you with this. I can.
- Brooke McQueen: Okay.
- [sees something that grabs her attention]
- Brooke McQueen: Hey, you know what?
- [takes out photo from her locker]
- Brooke McQueen: Check it out. You turned just as I was about to kiss you.
- [he looks]
- Brooke McQueen: We've come full circle.
- [scoffs]
- Harrison John: Uh... someone... I sensed someone...
- Brooke McQueen: Look at your face. You're staring at Sam.
- [scoffs, shakes her head]
- Brooke McQueen: You know, it's all right, I... I know.
- Harrison John: Know? What... what?
- Brooke McQueen: That you may be in love. But just not with me.
- Harrison John: No...
- Brooke McQueen: Look, uh, Harrison, do you remember when you asked me if I wanted to go out with you... because I felt sorry for you?
- [raises eyes]
- Brooke McQueen: Like some charity date?
- Harrison John: Yeah.
- Brooke McQueen: Well, I didn't want a handout either.
- Harrison John: Look, Brooke, it is not like that. The fact that you seem to need me right now, it is such a great thing. It means a lot to me. It really does.
- Brooke McQueen: And I know you mean that to be nice. And... and I know that being needed is a great thing to feel. But it's not love.
- [shakes her head]
- Brooke McQueen: When it comes to love, there's no second place.
- Harrison John: [smiles] What about friendship?
- Brooke McQueen: Friendship's good.
- [nods, wry smile:]
- Brooke McQueen: Especially when you don't have another choice.
