More of Ryan Murphy's excruciatingly unfunny camp comedy attempts, featuring some of the most weird characters to be seen on television. Weird, not as in a good kind of very watchable weird, weird because you gotta be kinda totally nuts to watch this. Especially if you bought the DVD. Of course, that's why I watch, I bought the DVD. I know I'm gonna be very critical, but week after week, I stick to it. But, hey, me buy another Ryan Murphy TV show after the junk I've had to sit through watching NIP/TUCK and POPULAR? Heck, damn well, no!

Of course, I got involved with POPULAR after having seen an episode of NIP/TUCK guest-starring Leslie Bibb, and from there on, my superficial research (as to not cause spoilers) pointed the way to POPULAR being a modern BEVERLY HILLS 90210. To sum it up in a nice, tidy nutshell: I maintain that the basic premise, that which POPULAR claims to be, by its packaging, is quite misleading. It's a weird, often totally surrealistic show, with a string of oddball characters, some will eventually GRATE ON YOUR NERVES.

However, I am, fortunately (or actually, if you think of it this way, MOST UNFORTUNATELY) an ardent Leslie Bibb admirer. In this episode, the Beauty gives an anti-drug speech WELL LET ME NOT BE PRETENTIOUS, the script reeks with Ryan's peculiar insertions of weirdness, the guy we are supposed to feel sorry for has a name with obscene connotations, I doubt that too many viewers even caught on, SO I DIDN'T REALLY CARE ABOUT THE SPEECH but duh! I can just sit there watching Blonde Beauty against the All-American backdrop, Young Princess in front of Old Glory, and...

Hell, people, I must calm down now. I'm sure you'll understand what I mean.

In truth, let's be fair, POPULAR has got several cute moments. BUT for every plus, there are 10 cringes.
