The people behind the making of a fighter plane which has dangerous defects - resulting in the deaths of dozens of pilots - are about to be exposed by an investigative journalist.
They get wind of it, and hire a South African hitman to come to London and take him out before he can talk.
This is a pretty decent story from season 3, that sees the hitman Van Niekirk taken into CI5 custody on his arrival in the UK - only to be replaced by Doyle, as CI5 endeavour to discover exactly whom his intended target actually is.
Martin Shaw does a pretty good South African accent, and there's plenty of opportunities for humour and banter from the boys along the way. Look out for Linda Belligham too as the wife of the hitman's target Hope, and a nicely ad-libbed scene between she and Bodie when she thinks he's broken into her house.
It's not clear why the girl Doyle meets in the hotel seems to know what's going on - maybe it was just Doyle's misinterpretation of her friendly chatter that caused him to make an error of judgment.
A good climax too inside the HQ of the Daily Express newspaper plant in Fleet Street, and a fiery Bodie as he answers Cowley back and threatens to resign over a deadly blunder.
A well-paced and entertaining episode that a good balance of suspense and action.
