I am reasonably sure character actor G.D. Spradlin appeared in this episode portraying Henry Ford. In the episode, he sponsored Barney Oldfield's participation in "The Great Motor Race." At the end, he told Sam Waterston's character that, while rockets had no place in automobiles, he felt the safety glass Q.E.D. invented was a lifesaver, and was more than willing to invest in that. Spradlin often portrayed crusty, sardonic individuals in movies such as "Tank," where he was a corrupt and evil Southern sheriff, in the Jackie Gleason from the Smokey and the Bandit series, only without the humor. I also remember him as US Navy Admiral Fletcher, the hero of Midway, in ABC's miniseries "War and Remembrance."
I remember also Showtime broadcast all six episodes of this series in the mid 1980s, and that some episodes were issued on video at about the same time under the title "The Mastermind."
