Another sidesplitting episode

Warning: Spoilers
Quark (a terrifically dry'n'droll Richard Benjamin) and his screwball crew are rescued by the Forrest People just as they are about to be eaten by the nasty humanoid lizard. Moreover, Quark finds "it," a crystal that he thinks will make him invincible. Naturally, the dastardly Zorgon the Malevolent (deliciously essayed with hammy brio by Ross Martin) wants "it" for himself so he can rule the universe. Director Bruce Bilson, working from a clever and inspired script by Jonathan Kaufer, relates the immensely entertaining story at a brisk pace and maintains an engaging tongue-in-cheek tone throughout. The cast tackle the sharp material with infectious zest: Tim Thomerson excels as Gene/Jean, who's swaggering machismo really goes hysterically hog wild in this particular tale; Richard Kelton cuts a perfectly stoic figure as the ridiculously phlegmatic Ficus, Tricia and Cyb Barnstable are in characteristic luscious and dynamic form as the insanely scrumptious Betty I and Betty II, who look mad sexy in gold hot pants and halter tops; Bobby Porter has several hilarious moments as the abjectly craven robot Andy, and Conrad Janis is sublimely unctuous as the ever-smarmy Otto Palindrome. In addition, the lovely Joan Van Ark contributes a memorably fetching turn as the lusty and enticing Princess Libido. Once again, Ficus demonstrates "pollinating" to Libido with positively sidesplitting results. Another comic highlight has the brash and overconfident Quark taking on one of Zorgon's hulking henchman under the false pretense that he's unbeatable. The makers of this show definitely hit their satirical stride with this cracking two part episode, which makes the fact that this show only lasted a mere eight episodes that much more of an unfortunate shame. An absolute hoot.

Part 2...and the power of 'IT'.

This is the second part of a two-part episode...the only such episodes of this very short-run series. At the end of the previous episode, Quark and his crew are being held prisoner by the evil Zorgon, one of the most dreaded and homicidal Gorgons. Naturally, all the ways he tries to kill Quark and his goofy crew fail and ultimately, Quark finds help from Baron of the Forest People...and the power of 'IT'.

Again, like the previous episode, there just aren't a lot of laughs in this one. Further, the story is drug out over two episodes...when it easily could have been only one. Not the worst episode...but close.
