"Speed Trap" is not a terrible episode for the most part, however, one big STUPID cliché really knocks a few points off this one and make it a weak show overall. It begins with Quincy and his friends watching a car race on TV. Therefore, you KNOW that one of the drivers is about to die AND that Quincy will be autopsying the guy, pronto! And, that's exactly what happens. At first, the autopsy looks pretty routine, but the presence of amphetamines in the dead guy is puzzling, as his crew chief (Simon Oakland) reports that the deceased was a health nut. They eventually determine that the guy WAS drugged. But who and why? So what irritated me about this one? Well, in the middle of the show, a guy says to Dr. Quincy "...just let me qualify and then I'll serve you the murderer on a silver platter"--and you KNOW that the guy is dead meat!! And, no surprise here, only 30 seconds later he WAS dead and couldn't tell Quincy who the guilty party was! This is a HORRIBLE cliché and along with the other cliché I mentioned (the TV bit with his friends), the show came off as poorly written and full of clichés.
By the way, the normally intensely angry Simon Oakland was a bit of a disappointment for me. He was, uncharacteristically sane and level-headed! I was hoping he'd play the same sort of guy he usually played. Then, with him acting angry and irritable, he and Quincy TOGETHER would have been hilarious to watch!
