The Gunfighter
bkoganbing13 June 2020
Elements of the classic western The Gunfighter go into the making of this Rawhide story. James Gregory a gunfighter is quietly traveling as one of thre drovers on the Gil Favor trail herd. Young punk Jan Merlin stops at the drive and recognizes Gregory and draws on him. His final move as Gregory turns and shoots Merlin.

Eric Fleming goes with Gregory to the next town to explain the incident. But the sheriff is gone and the town belongs to Merlin's older brother, a swaggering bully played by Arch Johnson. Fleming and Gregory are trapped in the saloon with bartender Parley Baer and ntertainer Jeanne Cooper who Gregory has history with.

Like Gregory Peck in The Gunfighter, James Gregory cuts a tragic figure moving to an inevitable conclusion. He makes this episode worth watching.
